Handbook on Active Public Participation

New Handbook on Active Public Participation in Environmental Decision-Making

The handbook authored by Prof. Dr Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović was presented at the roundtable on green economic culture, sustainable practices and IT tools for combating climate change.

Prepared with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the OSCE in Vienna, the publication explains the rights of the public and the public concerned and provides a framework for meaningful participation in environmental decision-making.

The event organised by the Aarhus Centre Novi Sad and the Faculty of Technical Sciences considered sustainable business practices, environmental financing, IT solutions for the green economy and education for future leaders.

The handbook is intended for practical use and explains who constitutes the public and the public concerned, which information should be available and at which stages participation can genuinely influence a decision. Presenting it in the context of the green economy demonstrated that meaningful public participation is not an obstacle to investment but a condition for better decisions, trust and reduced legal risk.
