Specialisation of Judges and Prosecutors Where Environmental Justice Is Most Needed
The conference organised by the Judicial Academy and the OSCE Mission to Serbia was held in Bor on 15 October 2025.
The event brought together judges and prosecutors from Bor, Zaječar, Negotin, Knjaževac and Dimitrovgrad. Prof. Dr Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović moderated discussion on administrative, civil and criminal environmental protection, national case law and the need for specialisation.
Jelena Ivanović, Siniša Važić, Nebojša Đuričić and Danijela Sinđelić presented court and prosecutorial experience, while Prof. Dr Luc Lavrysen addressed specialised environmental courts by video. Prof. Dr Drenovak-Ivanović presented the practice of the ECtHR in environmental issues and trends in climate litigation. The conclusions focused on creating a network of judges and prosecutors experienced in environmental cases and continuing professional development.
The regional approach connected discussion of specialisation with the experience of courts and prosecutors working in areas exposed to significant industrial and environmental pressures. The video presentation on comparative models complemented analysis of national practice. The conclusions provided a basis for further training and development of a network of judicial professionals dealing with environmental cases.
