Environmental Protection through Criminal Law within JMC EECL Teaching
Prof. Dr Milan Škulić delivered eight teaching hours in the summer semester of each of the 2023/2024, 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic years, amounting to 24 hours within JMC EECL.
In 2025/2026, as in the preceding two project years, teaching was delivered through the activity Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law for students at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. It covered the foundations of criminal-law protection of the environment, environmental offences prescribed by the Criminal Code and special legislation, the initiation and conduct of criminal proceedings, and the role of the public prosecutor in environmental-crime cases.
Particular attention was given to the relationship between national criminal law and developments in European Union law concerning environmental crime. Analysis of the legal framework was connected with its practical application and with the importance of effectively prosecuting conduct that harms the environment, human health and protected natural assets.
Prof. Dr Milan Škulić’s teaching strengthened the interdisciplinary character of JMC EECL by connecting environmental law with criminal responsibility and criminal procedure, enabling students at different levels of study to examine environmental protection from a criminal-law perspective.
