Educating Future Environmental Lawyers
On 19 February 2024, the OSCE Mission to Serbia published a feature on the long-term impact of the Environmental Law Clinic.
The article presented the programme’s theoretical and practical structure, the involvement of experienced judges, prosecutors, professors and experts, and placements at the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, the Protector of Citizens, judicial bodies and other partner institutions.
It particularly noted that Clinic alumni participate in significant environmental cases and that OSCE support constitutes a long-term investment in professional knowledge, youth participation and more effective implementation of environmental law. It also presented the development of the E-L-C Hub as a network of young environmental lawyers.
The OSCE feature documented the Clinic’s development from a student programme into a stable framework for cooperation between the Faculty, the judiciary, public administration, independent institutions and civil society. In the JMC EECL context, the publication also provided evidence of institutional sustainability: knowledge and networks developed through the Clinic continued through the E-L-C Hub, guest lectures and work on concrete environmental matters.
