Ninth Cohort of the Environmental Law Clinic Formally Opened
The new cohort was welcomed at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law on 1 November 2023.
The ceremony was opened by Vice-Dean Prof. Dr Marko Jovanović, Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Ambassador Jan Braathu and Clinic Director Prof. Dr Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović. Students were also addressed by Minister for European Integration Prof. Dr Tanja Miščević, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Milan Marinović and Clinic alumni working in international organisations, the judiciary, public administration and civil society.
Following presentation of the programme, an introductory lecture addressed environmental law and clinical teaching methodology. Students were introduced to special administrative procedures, environmental impact assessment, the role of the public concerned and the importance of decisions that contribute to sustainable development.
The opening marked the beginning of a two-semester programme combining theoretical lectures, scenario-based cases, contact with legal practitioners and placements in partner institutions. The participation of public-authority representatives and alumni enabled students to understand different professional roles in environmental protection from the outset. The ninth cohort was the first cohort whose work took place during the implementation of JMC EECL.
