Conference on Access to Environmental Information

Access to Environmental Information between Human Rights, ESG and Climate Governance

The conference was organised in Belgrade in May 2026 by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection.

Prof. Dr Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović addressed Aarhus Convention standards and implementation challenges. The analysis connected access to information with private and family life under Article 8 ECHR and procedural rights in environmental administrative proceedings.

The discussion also covered expanding transparency obligations under the CSRD, EU Taxonomy, CBAM and due-diligence rules, and proceedings involving TotalEnergies and KLM concerning alleged misleading green claims. Particular attention was paid to the Omnibus package’s effect on access to sustainability information.

The conference demonstrated that the right to information is no longer confined to documents held by public authorities. New EU rules create duties to disclose information on emissions, value chains, risks and sustainability, while litigation tests the accuracy of information communicated by companies. This broader approach was incorporated directly into JMC EECL teaching on the Aarhus Convention, corporate accountability and green claims.
