Strengthening Judicial Capacity in Environmental and Climate Law

Specialisation of Judges and Prosecutors in Environmental and Climate Matters and Stronger Judicial Capacity

The conference was organised by the Judicial Academy and the OSCE Mission to Serbia in June 2026.

The event brought together judges, prosecutors and legal practitioners to consider specialised capacity for increasingly complex environmental and climate-related cases. Prof. Dr Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović contributed as speaker and moderator to discussions on administrative, civil and criminal protection, domestic case law and European Court of Human Rights standards.

The conference also presented the Handbook on Environmental and Climate Change Law: Challenges and Solutions in Judicial Practice, prepared by Danijela Sinđelić, Nebojša Đuričić and Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović.

Presentation of the handbook connected professional discussion of specialisation with concrete analysis of issues arising in national case law. The publication is intended for continued use in training and in the work of judges and prosecutors, allowing the cooperation of JMC EECL, the Judicial Academy and the OSCE Mission to extend beyond a single event. The conference therefore supported lasting judicial capacity-building.
