Human Rights, Gender Equality and Climate Change Law
Prof. Dr Ivana Krstić delivered eight teaching hours in the summer semester of each of the 2023/2024, 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic years, amounting to 24 hours within JMC EECL.
In 2025/2026, as in the preceding two project years, four hours were delivered within the Climate Change Law course, while four hours on international environmental and climate change law were integrated into the compulsory International Human Rights Law course. The teaching examined whether and under what conditions the effects of climate change may constitute human rights violations, states’ positive obligations, the role of international courts and human rights bodies, and the relevance of a human-rights-based approach to climate justice.
Particular attention was given to the effects of climate change on vulnerable groups, migration and gender equality, as well as to the gender perspective of binding and non-binding international instruments concerning environmental protection. Materials developed through JMC EECL were also used to introduce topics concerning gender, climate change and environmental law into the course Public Policies on Gender Equality within the Law and Gender master’s academic programme.
Prof. Dr Ivana Krstić is a Full Professor of Public International Law, International Human Rights Law and International Adjudication at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law. She also teaches courses addressing gender equality, non-discrimination and gender perspectives in law. Her contribution enabled environmental and climate change law to be systematically connected with international human rights protection.
