Environmental Law Programmes Presented within the Circle U. Network
November 2023: Presentation of the Belgrade Model of Education in Environmental and Climate Law.
During an exchange organised within the Circle U. network, the educational model developed at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law was presented. The model comprises the Master’s Programme in Environmental Law, the Environmental Law Clinic, and cooperation with the Judicial Academy and the OSCE Mission to Serbia in delivering a series of training courses for judges, judicial assistants and public prosecutors.
The exchange brought together representatives of universities from Vienna, Aarhus, Berlin, Paris, Belgrade, Louvain, Oslo, London and Pisa. The discussions focused on developing new educational programmes in environmental and climate law and strengthening cooperation between academia, public institutions and other societal actors.
The Belgrade model is based on three interconnected elements: specialised Master’s-level teaching, clinical legal education and professional training for members of the judiciary. Discussions with partners from the Circle U. network explored opportunities for joint teaching, the exchange of teaching methods, and the involvement of students, institutions and other societal actors in programmes addressing climate change. The activity contributed to the international dissemination of JMC EECL teaching and research results and laid the foundations for future academic cooperation.
