Research, International Exchange and JMC EECL Publications
The research activities connected curriculum development with European and international sustainability law, human rights protection, climate justice and access to environmental justice.
Research visits and guest lectures at the Universities of Oslo and York focused on corporate sustainability, corporate responsibility for human rights and environmental impacts, the Aarhus Convention, climate litigation and new models of clinical legal education. The results were used directly in developing curricula, case studies and practical teaching.
During the project, papers were published on access to climate justice, the development of the right to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, the greening of administrative procedures for the implementation of the Aarhus Convention, and corporate emissions-reduction policies. The volume “25 Years of the Aarhus Convention in South Eastern Europe” was published following an international conference, while the monograph “The Role of European Union Law in the Environmental and Climate Transition: Challenges and Perspectives”, developed from presentations delivered at the final conference, was published as the final scholarly output of JMC EECL.
The research findings did not remain separate from teaching: recent case law, European legislation and international human rights standards were incorporated into teaching units, case studies and discussion topics. International visits enabled research findings to be tested through discussions with colleagues and students and facilitated the exchange of clinical and problem-based learning methods. JMC EECL thereby established a connection between research, publication, internationalisation and the long-term modernisation of the curriculum.
