Aarhus Convention Standards between Environmental and Criminal Liability

Research findings were presented at the environmental session of the international conference “International Legal Relations and Justice”.

The presentation analysed the Aarhus Convention’s access-to-justice standards in relation to liability for environmental damage and liability for environmental criminal offences. Participation in the Kopaonik School of Natural Law enabled exchange with researchers and practitioners on contemporary issues of environmental liability.

The research examined whether existing procedural mechanisms allow the public and associations to seek accountability where environmental harm affects broader or collective interests. Connecting the Aarhus Convention with civil and criminal liability contributed to JMC EECL research on access to environmental justice and the role of courts in environmental protection.
