From ESG Education to Tangible Results in Local Communities
As a member of the PwC ESG Leaders 2026 expert jury, Prof. Dr Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović participated in evaluating initiatives that put ESG principles into practice.
For the third consecutive year, the PwC ESG Leaders programme recognised organisations and individuals contributing to the development and implementation of ESG principles in Serbia. The assessment gave particular consideration to educational programmes whose outcomes could be identified in tangible changes within local communities.
The award-winning initiatives included experiential outdoor learning programmes for children, the economic empowerment of women and members of vulnerable groups through digital education and the circular economy, and sustainable food production based on local resources.
Participation in the jury provided comparative insight into how different organisations translate ESG principles into concrete educational, social and environmental outcomes. Particularly significant were examples connecting education with social entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, the responsible use of resources and behavioural change.
Although the jury work was not an activity carried out within JMC EECL, the initiatives considered are relevant to its teaching and research because they demonstrate how sustainability knowledge can be applied beyond formal education and translated into local initiatives and practical models of sustainable development.
