Strengthening Judicial Capacity for Environmental Cases
The Judicial Academy and the OSCE Mission to Serbia continued the standardised environmental-law training programme.
The programme was intended for initial-training participants, judicial assistants and prosecutors. Lectures and discussions covered civil, criminal, misdemeanour and administrative environmental protection, the role of the Aarhus Convention and challenges in proving and prosecuting environmental cases.
Judges, prosecutors, attorneys, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and academics contributed to the programme. It enabled exchange on national and European practice and the further development of specialised knowledge.
The standardised approach gave participants a common foundation before addressing the particular features of environmental cases across different branches of law. The programme highlighted the need for coordination among courts, prosecutors, administrative authorities and expert services, especially where cases require technical knowledge and assessment of complex evidence. The training formed part of the continuing professional-development cooperation of JMC EECL with the Judicial Academy and the OSCE Mission.
