Environmental Law in Administrative, Judicial and Prosecutorial Practice
The “Basic Training – Environmental Law” programme was held in Belgrade from 17 to 19 September 2025.
The Judicial Academy and the OSCE Mission to Serbia organised the sixth training cycle for judges, judicial assistants of commercial courts and deputy public prosecutors. Its purpose was to strengthen capacity for effective environmental-law implementation and prosecution of environmental offences.
Prof. Dr Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović’s opening lectures connected the principles of sustainable development, precaution and polluter pays with national administrative and judicial practice and ECtHR case law. The programme also addressed civil, criminal and misdemeanour protection, the Aarhus Convention and environmental forensics.
The sixth cycle confirmed the continuity of cooperation and enabled the programme to be updated with recent national and European practice. Examining different forms of liability helped participants understand how a single environmental event may give rise to administrative, civil, misdemeanour or criminal proceedings. The training implemented the JMC EECL objective of transferring knowledge of EU law and human-rights standards to the judiciary.
